Stormy weather cooled the air and made way for one of the prettiest Saturdays we’ve had this year. And we met up with Chris + Jessica in Yellow Springs to take full advantage. It seems like there’s always somewhere new to ‘discover’ when we do sessions there. Most of the locations we used were new to us!

I did it again. BUT — this time, I’m going to leave it like it is. Feel the love, folks. Feel the love.

Kelsey and Josh were married and celebrated their reception at The Masonic Center of Dayton.
Kelly Shank of Party Pleasers provided music and flow as DJ.
Shannon and Connie of Cake, Hope + Love created their wedding cake.
Kelsey’s friend, Lisa of JCPenney’s Salon styled the girls’ hair.
Michaels Salon provided the girls’ make-up.

Such a great family. So creative, so hard-working. Way giving to boot. We love being around them and the world’s a better and more efficient place with them here. In our humble opinions!

Let’s go ahead and take a walk around the Oregon District now. As you’ll see, it was a chilly and rainy day (as it so often is), but there were no complaints. Sometimes you can use your spidey senses to power through anything!

And yippee, there was sunshine!

Josh and Kelsey invited us to do their engagement session on her dad’s horse farm, which we loved because it’s a location close to their hearts and an important part of their relationship. We always want to know more about our couples, and every personal touch really helps make the photos special.

We started our session back in a little pine forest that’s hidden away from the horses and buildings — it was a sweet and intimate location. They got a little smoochie.

We had Kelsey stand on a little white chair — she’s not really 6’2″.

Once we were sufficiently chilled from the cold, we got to go back to the barn and meet two of their horses, Bubba and Rusher. I wanted to take little Bubba home, but we had the back seat in the van and it just wasn’t going to work.

A family photo… minus 8 cats, 5 dogs and the other horses. So much life on the farm!

Eventually, they had to have a little warm up cuddle. I don’t blame them.

Never shy with the smiles and laughter! We’re really looking forward to their wedding in April, many more moments like this to come.

We met early on Saturday morning in a parking lot behind a BBQ restaurant and took off on a mission, searching for some kind of ledge that Jonelle could stand on to give her the extra 15 inches she needed to be the same height as Tony. We were inspired by Pinterest, again. It was important to get that shot.

Wink.

Thirty minutes later, this is what we had:

I noticed Tony had a very, very difficult time not smiling while he was kissing his sweetheart. Not that he was trying not to smile; but look at that. He’s cheesing!

There’s that smile again.

That big guy is Moses. He’s their baby. He got some of those smile kisses, too.

we found the ledge toward the end of the session — and she’s actually a little taller than Tony. So cute.

And that’s a mini session!

We schedule these short shoots about 4-6 times a year, and they can take place anywhere; from inside a basement to the streets of an old town. The only thing that’s limited is time. Mini shoots last 30 minutes and result in about 20 proofs to share online and choose from for printing.

aren’t their boys just so handsome? the little guy worked out this senior picture pose all on his own.

Big brother was incredibly attentive — these kids are priceless.

Mark + Amy were talking to each other with their eyes the whole time — they are so in love! It’s really easy to take pictures of a couple when they can look at each other and become oblivious to us and other distractions.

even the most priceless children can require a little juggling, you know?

There were fluffy white clouds hovering playfully below the brilliant sky. <<sigh>>

There was a sleek new barn-style building cutting into the cloudscape. And amber waves of grain.

And fruited plains.

And the pinkest roses you’ve ever seen.

And a camera-shy praying mantis reluctant to smile, but polite enough to hold still for a quick portrait. Look at those eyes!

But, most importantly, there was the farm-loving, happy-to-be-here Gaby family.

After some light stone tossing…

…it was a good time to take advantage of the superb flying conditions,

and mommy kisses.

Then the little one acted tough…

…while he did some barn window bird watching…

…while mom and dad did some watching of their own. Love birds.

Then it was back to playful childishness!

Later, we took a wood-side stroll through a glimmering, sun-streaked garden.

By and by we came to the leaf-strewn boardwalk of a small wooden footbridge stretched stalwartly over a silent stream…

…and lingered.

But there was more to do and see. Little ones love a good adventure!

And hiding.

And imitating dad.

<<continue>> More strolling led us down a winding gravel path, into a faux-barn (it wasn’t red!).

Later, outside the barn: Moo.

Finally, the inseparable trio relaxed on a knee-high stone wall near a lively green and bristly shrub for a timeless keepsake moment.

It was the kind of wedding where we couldn’t tell who was family and who was friends because Curtis and Emily made everyone there feel so very important.

They’re a wonderful couple and we were more than honored to capture their whole day!

Curtis’s mama made Emily’s dress. Isn’t that amazing?

There were so many personal touches scattered throughout. Including the flowers, made from paper from the bride and groom.

The food from Christopher’s Catering had everyone hurrying back for seconds and thirds; and the baked goods reminded me of Gramma’s house circa 1988 (always a good thing.)

The ceremony took place on the front lawn and was sun-kissed and warm for mid-October. They had Ceremonies by Persephone direct the service, which she tailored around their personal story. It was beautiful.

There was so much laughter throughout the day — everyone was relaxed and excited all at once for the celebration! And Curtis makes goofy faces on the fly… so that helped, too.

Plenty of food and good conversation made for a great reception. Emily and Curtis were having so much fun, they didn’t even get to have a first dance!

Oh, there were some stories to tell… Grandma stole the show.

But all eyes were mostly on the happy couple.
